AFI has been on vacation for the first part of the summer, but we're back, lovin' the heat, and gearing up for a big rest-of-year!
This newsletter, though, is just a little about us and a lot about the cool people and organizations here in Austin wanting to help food entrepreneurs plan, grow, and succeed.

2015's Accelerator & Fast Pitch Program is in progress, but teams creating for-profit businesses that address social issues can start thinking about next year, where winners will join a 6-Week Accelerator Program and get $2,500-$5,000 in startup funding.

CTAN is one of the nation's leading Angel Networks for high growth, exit-oriented companies.
On August 13 (and then again Oct 22), CTAN hosts the Entrepreneur's Workshop. This is a free event that is open to all entrepreneurs where CTAN staff, a CTAN angel investor, and a founder from a CTAN-funded startup will discuss CTAN's Funding Cycle process, what angels look for in a startup, and help answer your questions.

Farmshare Austin's FarmerStarter program is designed to provide aspiring farmers with the essential skills and training needed to manage a sustainable farming business.
Using a blend of hands-on in-field training and formal classroom education, students will gain practical knowledge and experience in organic and sustainable growing methods, as well as learning the business and financial planning skills necessary to establish a successful market farm.

FOOD+CITY CHALLENGE PRIZE
Applications Open Sept 1 - Oct 15, 2015
UT's Food Lab spun out Food+City to explore the global food system.
Food+City's Challenge Prize is an early stage business startup competition encouraging innovation within the urban food system.
$50k (in total) will be split by winning companies in a variety of categories.

Entrepreneur's Workshop, co-sponsored by the Austin Technology Incubator at UT and the Central Texas Angel Network, covers the basics of starting and growing a successful business.
Each session will be taught by experts in their respective fields, including entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and CEOs.

Join the Austin Rice Alliance, Food+City at the University of Texas at Austin, The Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Austin andBoston University's Alumni Network for an in-depth discussion of Austin's food startup environment, innovation and culture. The TVL Accelerator at the UT McCombs School of Business currently admits 12-14 companies each Fall and Spring semester. To apply, companies must be based in Austin, have full-time management or management whose primary focus is their startup, be in the process of or have already completed development of a prototype or product and have completed basic market research.
UnLTD USA: 3rd COHORT FORMING
Are you an entrepreneur based in Austin tackling a big social or environmental challenge, such as access to education, healthcare or housing? - or food? UnLtd USA wants to meet you! WHOLE FOODS LOCAL PRODUCER LOAN PROGRAM$25M in low-interest loans available to independent farmers and food artisans
Producers who meet Whole Foods Market's Quality Standards, have a viable business plan and adequate cash flow to service debt, and are intending to use funds for expansion and capital expenditures (not operating expenses) may apply.
We hope this list has been helpful. In a future newsletter we'll list organizations and programs that aren't located in Austin, but serve impact, social good, and triple bottom line companies nationwide.
